Our Story

Founded in the heart of Tampa, Rick’s Electrical has been a beacon of reliability and trust for nearly three decades.

Growing up, my dad Richard Thomas Magill, Jr. helped people. He did home and air conditioning repairs and appliance work to provide for our family. Watching him lend his hands and talents to people through honest service at prices they could afford was the best training I could have ever received. It’s no wonder that the hours and jobs I spent working alongside him would help me build the foundation for what would eventually become Rick’s Electrical, Inc.

Running a business, building a team, and having a solid reputation are the things I learned from my dad. The time spent alongside him gave me the critical skills I needed to be able to successfully manage a business. It also taught me how to work with all different types of people and keep the promise to my family that I would always be there for them. With my wife and two young boys at home, I finally had the chance to pursue a path in the electrical trades, the opportunity to receive hours of on-the-job training, and the ability to become a licensed electrician, and so I did!

Like anything new and uncharted, starting a business is not easy. But staying in business for 24 years is nothing short of remarkable, especially in this day-and-age! From one truck and doing the jobs myself, Rick’s Electrical was born. Just like my dad, I was eager to give families the help they needed so they could do the things that matter most to them. In those early days, a seven-day work week was common, and meeting people and forging long-term relationships became the norm.

As the years passed, my wife Irma and our children Richard Thomas IV, and Michael, along with our daughter-in-law Katherine joined me. My sons literally grew up in Rick’s Electrical, and I am proud to say that they learned all aspects of the business from the ground up! Their interests and talents in the business inspire me, and today it gives me great joy to be able to work side-by-side with them.

So much has changed since the dawn of the new millennium, but our focus at Rick’s Electrical remains the same: Help people and businesses with their electrical needs so they can go back to doing the things that matter most!

Our Milestones

Rick’s Electrical has been marking significant strides in the electrical contracting industry with a series of impressive milestones. One of the initial major achievements was the downtown Tampa project, where the company expertly handled the complex wiring of a multi-use transformation of an old warehouse into a vibrant three-story building. Building upon this success, Rick’s Electrical secured contracts with local municipalities, contributing to vital infrastructure projects such as municipal pumping and water quality monitoring stations. Furthermore, to enhance our service quality and efficiency, we established an in-house estimating department equipped with the latest software technologies, underscoring our commitment to innovation and precision in all endeavors.

First Major Contract

From the small garage in our home, Rick’s Electrical was born! Along with that came the passion to help people in the community with quality workmanship.

Family Expansion

In 2016, we welcomed the next generation into the business, reinforcing our family-first values.
